2019 Summer Staff Job Descriptions

Below you will find all of the positions we offer for the summer, what is required for that position and what qualifications you much have to be considered for hire.

 
 

Head Of Staff (Girls/Boys)

Purpose: Heads of Staff are responsible for the supervision and spiritual nurture of the younger youth staff

Accountability

reports to Staff Coordinator

Responsibilities

  1. Administer the policies set forth in the Camp Staff Handbook. Enforce appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary. Heads of Staff will live in the staff cabins with the youth staff to facilitate this administration.

  2. By modeling and instruction, set the spiritual tone for the youth staff. Encourage them in their spiritual growth through personal friendships, morning prayer, chapels, evening devotions, one-on-one discipleship, etc.

  3. Establish rapport as much as possible with youth staff to enable ministry to personal or relational needs that develop during the summer. Take appropriate initiative in reaching out to their questions and problems.

  4. Interact appropriately with each other, the Staff Coordinator, and other leadership staff for counsel, encouragement and prayer.

  5. Work alongside the youth staff among the various departments for the purpose of building relationships and rapport. This can include filling in for other people on their days off and helping in any area of camp where needed.

  6. On day off, find replacements for any normal responsibilities such as devotions, enforcing curfew, etc.

  7. Plan and execute weekly staff activities.

  8. Meet regularly with the Staff Coordinator.

Qualifications

  1. Heads of Staff should ideally be a mature college student or be between the ages of 20-25.

  2. Must exhibit a genuine love for youth with a willingness to serve and wisdom to care for them.

  3. Must exude leadership qualities.

  4. Have a mature, personal commitment to Jesus Christ as evidenced in their daily life.

 

Explorer Director

Purpose: The Explorer Directors are to assist the Family Camp Program Director by caring for the physical and spiritual needs of the campers (ages 8-12) in the Explorer Program.

 

Accountability

reports to Operations Director

REsponsibilities

  1. Implement the Explorer program prepared with the Family Camp Program Director.

  2. Meet with the Operations Director to discuss problems, schedules, camp in general, and share specific prayer needs.

  3. Lead devotions and be ready to apply biblical truths to the lives of campers.

  4. Meet parents and families at the beginning of the week (Sunday evening) to introduce self, the weekly schedule, and distribute sign-up sheets.

  5. Prepare for day trips: call ahead, get accurate information, find drivers, help make bag lunches if needed.

Qualifications

  1. The Explorer Program Director should ideally be a college student or be between the ages of 18-23.

  2. Must exhibit a genuine love for kids with a willingness to serve their interests before their own.

  3. Must exude leadership qualities.

  4. Have a mature, personal commitment to Jesus Christ as evidenced in their daily life.

 

Adventurer Director

Purpose: The Adventurer Directors are to assist the Family Camp Program Director by caring for the physical and spiritual needs of the family guest campers (ages 13-17) in the Adventurer Program.

 

Accountability

reports to Operations Director.

Responsibilities

  1. Help to develop, implement, and organize the Adventurer Program, along with the Family Camp Program Director.

  2. Meet with the Operations Director to discuss problems, schedules, camp in general, and share specific prayer needs.

  3. Lead devotions and be ready to apply biblical truths to the lives of campers.

Counselor

Purpose: To care for the physical and spiritual needs of the campers in cooperation with other counselors and staff by completing work assignments as described by the Program Director.

 

Accountability

reports to Program Director

Responsibilities

  1. Be actively involved in a daily quiet time maintaining spiritual growth throughout the summer.

  2. Participate in pre-summer preparation and post summer evaluation.

  3. Interview each camper in your cabin within the first 36 hours of each week.

  4. Meet daily with Program Director to discuss problems, schedule, camp in general and to pray for needs.

  5. Adhere to daily schedule made by Program and Assistant Program Director.

  6. Maintain responsibility for health and safety of cabin group.

  7. Teach and/or assist camper activities and devotions.

  8. Always seek opportunities for counseling and sharing Jesus Christ with campers on a one-to-one basis.

  9. Assume work assignments to keep camp operating and presentable, showing care for all camp properties, materials, and equipment.

  10. Camper follow-up.

Qualifications

  1. Be at least 18 years of age and one year out of high school.

  2. Be a mature Christian with a strong desire to see campers come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

  3. Have a warm and friendly personality.

  4. Be able to get along with peers as well as younger children.

 

ADventure Day Camp Counselor

Purpose: To care for the physical and spiritual needs of the campers in cooperation with other counselors and staff by completing work assignments as described by the Adventure Day Camp Director.

 

Accountability

reports to Adventure Day Camp Director

Responsibilities

  1. Be actively involved in a daily quiet time maintaining spiritual growth throughout the summer.

  4. Adhere to daily schedule made by the Adventure Day Camp Director.

  6. Teach and/or assist camper activities and devotions.

  7. Always seek opportunities for counseling and sharing Jesus Christ with campers on a one-to-one basis.

  8. Assume work assignments to keep camp operating and presentable, showing care for all camp properties, materials, and equipment.

Assistant Program Director

Purpose: To assist the Program Director in the planning and execution of the camper program.

 

Accountability

reports to Program Director

Responsibilities

  1. Be actively involved in a daily quiet time maintaining spiritual growth throughout the summer.

  2. Participate in pre-summer preparation and post summer evaluation.

  3. Meet daily with Program Director to discuss problems, schedule, camp in general and to pray for needs.

  4. Assist the Program Director in the creation, coordination and execution of Youth Camp Program.

  5. Foster healthy relationships with counselors and campers for the purposes of discipleship, discipline, and mentoring.

Qualifications

  1. Be at least 18 years of age and one year out of high school.

  2. Be a mature Christian with a strong desire to see campers come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

  3. Have a warm, friendly and outgoing personality.

  4. Be able to get along with peers as well as younger children.

  5. Must exhibit leadership qualities and be a team player.

 

Maintenance

Purpose: To maintain the grounds and buildings so that they enhance the total function and purpose of Camp.

 

Accountability

reports to the Facilities Director

Responsibilities

  1. Collect all garbage and dump into the dumpster.

  2. Mow and trim the grounds on a weekly basis.

  3. Do general maintenance which would include; painting, light carpentry, trim trees, gather wood for campfire, etc.

  4. Assist the Facilities Director in any major jobs.

  5. Make sure care and caution is used at all times in operating any piece of equipment.

  6. Dishroom 1x week and Knutes 1x week.

  7. Be sensitive to the needs of guests and peers.

Qualifications

  1. Have a sincere desire to serve the Lord with a “servant-like” attitude.

  2. Be able to follow instruction and submit to authority.

  3. Be able to work together with others to form a team spirit.

  4. Be able to handle “strenuous” work, often outside in hot weather.

 

Wait Staff

Purpose: To prepare and clean the dining room before and after each meal and to serve the needs of guests during the meal.

 

Accountability

reports to the Head of Wait Staff

Responsibilities

  1. Set up dining room before the guests arrive for each meal.

  2. During the meal, wait staff will be responsible for 3-4 tables. They should be providing beverages, assisting with special food needs and meeting any other needs relating to food and drink that the guests might have (e.g. providing a high chair).

  3. After the guests have finished their meal, begin clearing tables and clean up the tables, chairs and surrounding floor area.

  4. On Saturday, perform deep-cleaning chores in the dining hall, such as: window washing, refilling napkin dispensers, thorough vacuuming, etc.

  5. Uniforms must be worn for every meal unless otherwise directed.

Qualifications

  3. Have an ability to deal cheerfully with many different types of people, some of whom can be very demanding at times.

Childcare

Purpose: To assist in maintaining a childcare program that provides a caring, warm environment in which parents may leave their children with confidence, while they enjoy the services and adult activities.

 

Accountability

reports to Head of Childcare and Head of Nursery

Responsibilities

  1. To assist in the care and safety of the children.

  2. To make the parents feel comfortable in leaving their children.

  3. To assist in providing a program that will teach the children of God’s love for them.

  4. To assist in keeping the pre-camper and nursery rooms clean and healthy.

  5. To assist in the thorough cleaning of the rooms at least once each week.

  6. To assist in the operation of the snack shops by helping to cover the afternoon hours the shops are open.

  7. Work one night per week in Knutes

Qualifications

  1. A sincere desire to serve the Lord with a “servant-like attitude.”

  2. A genuine love and patience with little children.

  3. A real sense that this is a ministry to reach little children for Christ.

  4. Be able to follow instructions and submit to authority.

 

Boat Driver

Purpose: To assist the Waterfront Director in the upkeep of the waterfront, docks and boats, as well as providing a full program of activities and maintaining a safe and wholesome environment at all times.

Accountability

reports to Waterfront Director

Responsibilities

  1. Provide safe boating experiences for guests, campers and staff.

  2. Basic maintenance and daily cleaning of pontoon and ski boats.

  3. Weekly pull both ski boats from water for thorough cleaning and oil change.

  4. Responsible for skis, tubes and ropes.

  5. Report all boat and dock maintenance needs to Operations Director.

  6. Participate in special programs and waterfront activities as needed.


Qualifications

  1. Possession of a valid New Hampshire Commercial Boating License (Camp Spofford can and will assist when needed)

  2. Have a genuine love for people and children in particular.

  3. Possess an outgoing personality and enjoy conversing with guests.

  4. Have a sincere desire to serve the Lord with a “servant-like” attitude.

  5. Be able to follow instructions and submit to authority.

 

Lifeguard

Purpose: To assist the Waterfront Director in the upkeep of the waterfront area, to provide a full program of activities and to maintain a safe and wholesome environment at all times.

 

Accountability

reports to Head of Waterfront

Responsibilities

  1. To assist in the enforcement and modeling of all safety rules and regulations.

  2. To assist in the instruction of swimming and boating.

  3. To assist in the maintenance and the cleanliness of all waterfront area and equipment.

  4. To participate in special programs and waterfront activities as needed.

  5. To realize the tremendous responsibility of the position and to be alert and punctual at all times.

Qualifications

  1. Possession of a valid Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate.

  2. Have a love for people and children in particular.

  3. Have a sincere desire to serve the Lord with a “servant-like” attitude.

  4. Be able to work together with others with a team spirit.

  5. Be able to follow instructions and submit to authority.

 

Housekeeping

Purpose: The housekeeping staff is responsible for the cleanliness of all guest facilities and other areas as assigned.

 

Accountability

reports to the Head of Housekeeping

Responsibilities

  1. Clean all community bathrooms daily or more often as needed.

  2. Clean and prepare guest rooms and bathrooms daily.

  3. Clean and vacuum lounges daily.

  4. Wash and dry laundry as needed and directed.

  5. Keep laundry and supply rooms neat and clean at all times.

  6. Expect to carry out special projects after daily routine is complete.

  7. Work one night per week in Knute‘s.

Qualifications

  2. Be able to deal with many different types of people, many who may be very demanding.

  3. Be able to work together with others to form a team spirit.

  4. Enjoy working with your hands and keeping environments tidy.

Kitchen Staff

Purpose: Contribute to the general operation of the food service program

 

Accountability

reports to the Food Service Director

Responsibilities

  1. Assist in preparing and serving meals

  2. Set up and maintain an orderly buffet area

  3. Assist in putting away orders and cleaning the kitchen

  4. Help in the dishroom or dining room as needed

Qualifications

  1. A strong desire to serve the Lord with a “servant-like” attitude

  2. A desire to work together with others with a team spirit

  3. Be able to respect and follow authority

  4. A willingness to learn and execute food preparation, service, and storage

* Note that long pants must be worn in the kitchen and dish room area.

 

Dishroom

Purpose: Contribute to the general operation of the food service program

 

Accountability

reports to Food Service Director

Responsibilities

  1. Turn on dishwasher before each meal and set out hot pans for silverware.

  2. Wipe down counters around dishwasher after each meal.

  3. Stack dishes according to color, design, size, etc.

  4. Clean out inside of dishwasher after each meal.

  5. Sweep and mop floor of dishroom area after each meal.

  6. Sweep and mop kitchen floor after evening meal.

  7. Wipe down all electrical appliances after evening meal.

  8. Check garbage bags after each meal, if full, take out to dumpster. After evening meal, all bags must go out to dumpster.

Sound Engineer

Purpose: To provide Camp Spofford guests with a cohesive worship experience across Camp

 

Accountability

Reports to Family Camp Program Director

Responsibilities

  1. Run slides

  2. Mix sound for daily chapel services

  3. Record sermons and uploading them to website

  4. Provide AV assistance around campus

  5. Resolve technical problems in chapel

  6. Create a music playlist for chapel services

Qualifications

  1. Have a basic knowledge of the fundamentals of audio mixing (EQ, Compression, Gate, HPF, Gain, and audio editing)

  2. Have a love of music.

  3. Be able to communicate with musicians and guests.

 

KNUTES STAFF

Purpose: To assist in the operations of the Knutes cafe and coffee bar

Accountability

Responsibilities

  1. Provide excellent customer service to patrons of Knutes

  2. Operate and clean all machines (e.g. espresso, dishwasher) pertinent to the production and service of Knutes cafe products

  3. Assist the Head of Knutes with set up and clean up of Knutes on a daily basis

  4. Expect to work 15-20 hours per week in childcare and/or housekeeping, in addition to 20-25 hours in Knutes

Qualifications

  2. Possess a friendly and accommodating personality.

  3. Have an ability to deal cheerfully with many different types of people, some of whom can be very demanding at times.
