Camp Spofford hires a whole host of people during the summer months in order to make everything run smoothly; we need staff for waterfront, maintenance, dining hall, housekeeping, childcare, and of course our Camp Counselors!  There is always a LOT going on at Camp Spofford during the summer months.  The rest of the year, however, it is our full-time staff that keep things going.  From September-June, our small group of full-time staff stay busy hosting retreats, planning events, maintaining the facilities, and carrying out the Mission of Camp Spofford so that God can continue to use it for His purpose.

The new Executive Director is…

After interviewing approximately 30 candidates over the last four months, the Board of Directors unanimously appoint Dan Syvertsen as Executive Director of Camp Spofford!

If you’re a longstanding member of the Camp Spofford family, you will remember Dan and his wife Kellie who have been a part of Camp since childhood. For years, the couple served as summer staff and year-round employees. Dan acted as Program Director for eight years until 2011, when he and Kellie relocated to Illinois. Since then, the Syvertsens adopted Leah, their two-year-old daughter, and gave birth to their second child, Ezekial, who is five-months-old. During their time in Chicago, Dan earned his Masters in Counseling Ministries from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He worked as Program Director for the Midtown Athletic Club, and most recently, served Christ Church in his role as Campus Pastor.

Dan is skilled at casting a vision and mobilizing a team to pursue God’s call. His commitment to bring more children, youth, and adults to Christ aligns with Camp Spofford’s mission. His years of experience at Camp, his solid leadership focus, and deep faith well-equip him to be Executive Director of Camp Spofford.

A Note from Dan:

When we left Camp Spofford in 2012, we expected to be in Illinois for two years. Two years turned into six. The Chicago area has been a fun place to live and explore. We have been welcomed into an awesome community of people and made lasting memories and friendships. We enjoyed watching both the Giants and Ravens win the Super Bowl– and even the Mets make it to the World Series after beating the Cubs. But, much more than sports, God has done a wonderful work in both Kellie, myself, and our family. We return with two awesome kids, Leah and Zeke. We are thrilled to see them grow up around Spofford!

We are humbled and honored to accept this new role as Camp’s Executive Director. Kellie and I have both been deeply impacted by the Camp and the people who have been a part of it. I look forward to joining the full time staff and leading Camp Spofford into the future God has planned. It is a special place, filled with awesome people.

I am excited to see you around Camp Spofford soon! All for the glory of God!
