Making The Switch
by Daniel Syvertsen
Every year, Labor Day marks the end of another Spofford Summer. Months before the summer even begins there is planning, hiring and booking. Then there is training, cleaning and preparing with the summer staff. Our guests and campers return and we enjoy this summer season more than any other! They always go by fast, and before we know it Labor Day is upon us and Camp is quiet again, but not for long.
It has become popular to refer to the non-Summer months as the Camp Spofford “Off-Season.” But for those that are around for any amount of time you know this is far from the truth. It does not take long after Labor Day for the guests to return to Spofford. During a typical Retreat Season at Spofford we will serve over 50 churches and over 3000 guests, mostly on weekends. It is a joy to be able to work alongside churches and organizations and provide a place where God can work in the hearts of the groups.
Retreat Season is busy. There is transition that happens around the Camp to be more equipped to serve groups. There
is constant housekeeping and kitchen work going on. All the while we are praying and preparing for the next summer. For this reason we are so very thankful for all the families and friends that come and volunteer at Spofford during the Retreat Season. Maybe it is for a work weekend, or to help in the kitchen or on your own time to help. We enjoy both the fellowship and help when you are here, and we know that there is so much that does not get done without the help of volunteers.
Put it all together and God is glorified through the work that happens around Spofford every day of every month!
